ok, well i have a pic of my "texas" i would like to know if its a Texas or a Carpinte.
i have heard they are mixed up alot. and LFS sell both under the Texas name.
I hope this is a good pic for the ID.

I am in no way qualified to answer your question, so I will just give you the benifit of knowing I read your post and looked at the picture wondering "Whats a Carpinte?"

Thats definately a Texas cichlid. I've been keeping both Texas cihlids (H. cyanoguttatus) and the Green Texas cichlid (H. carpinte) for over 15 years.

Agreed. Looks like a cyano to me.

if thats a texas, then how does a green texas look like? How bout Blue Texas is this the same as green texas?? thanx

That is a cyano. Green texans have larger spots than normal texas cichlids.

Blue Texas is same as Green. Both are carpinte.

Here are a few pictures of my 4 inch Carpinte. I just took these 5 minutes ago. This fish loves the camera. While the other fish in the tank all take off to the other end. This guy poses????
Fiesty little bugger. I love to just sit and watch him. He's always up to some sort of trouble.

Actually, it looks like you've got a cyano too (not a carpinte).
