I have a 30 gallon freshwater aquarium. My piranha just died, I'm gonna let the filter run on High for about 4 days and then get some new fish. I'm looking for very pretty fish to put in my tank. Any suggestions?

Remember to keep feeding your tank to keep your bacteria alive!

What sort of fish are you looking for? Peaceful/Semi/Aggressive? Small schooling fish or a couple bigger fish?

I'm looking for mostly peaceful and semi peaceful fish. And what do you mean feeding my tank?

Im just a newbie but speaking from experience, u have to keep adding a source of ammonia to the tank(fish food, store bought ect.) so the good bacteria dosent starve. If theres no food source and the tank is empty (aka fish waste, extra food=ammonia) the good bacteria coloneys die out and u have to do a cycle ALL OVER AGAIN :thud:

Have fun stocking!

fish food takes tiem to decompose- just go find some pure ammonia (ones without detergents or surfactants) and use your test kit to find out how much ammonia puts the water at 4-5ppm. That will provide plenty of food for the bacteria in your tank. Try and keep the levels at about 4-5 ppm until the day you get fish. Before you head to the fish store, do a MASSIVE water change to get rid of accumulated nitrates, test your water, make sure it's at the right temperature and 0 ammonia/0 nitrites/trace nitrates.
