i have recently taken my convict out of my tank and put into another one because of his aggressive behaviour, i had him in with the lombarda which i recently flushed down the toilet for attacking the convict and basically eating his fins and such, now my jack dempsey has killed my baby oscar (one of my favourites), so i have put the jack dempsey in with the convict....will they just kill each other ? or should i just get rid of the both of them seeing as neither of them can be with the other fish?????

 :(

How about starting over with less aggressive cichlids?

why not leave the con in the 12 gal and putting the jd in the 32 gal tank?

well i dont really see the point in having 2 tanks with only one fish in each, besides i only have crap filters so i have to have 2 in the 57 and one in the 12.

What about tank dividers in the big tank ? I know there not attractive, but it would work (cheaply) temporaly until a bigger tank was acquired. Just an idea. ;)

Word of the day: Turdmonkey. I'm using that one at work tommorrow. LOL

you are keeping cichlids. thay are very territorial. if housed in improper settings they will kill one another. so the fact that the fish killed another one of your fish is your fault. if you cant give them proper tank space then cichlids are not for you.

OK, lets start over with this thread and concentrate on the subject at hand. I think Bek knows how we feel about flushing fish so no more needs to be said about that one.

Thanks

These are some really really aggressive fish. They will tear each other to shreds eventually in a 57g tank. The Oscar alone might take the entire tank, but could possibly tolerate a Jewelfish and a Rainbow Shark. Water quality is my utmost concern when suggesting that.

Barramundi bothers me, because, as Crocodile Dundee said, "[They are] a bloody big fish." Plus, they are illegal to own in many countries (maybe not in Australia) and are among the most aggressive fish out there, not to mention the fact that they like to be loners, as most arowanas tend to be.

If the electric yellow is a Labidochromis spp. or another Malawian cichlid like I suspect, it may need a different tank as most of the rest of these fish would do best in much softer, much more acidic water than one of the Malawians.

I've always wondered where I'd find a Barramundi... never seen one in stores, homes, or even on TV. Although I do recall that quote by Crocadile Dundee, as well as reading up on how they're almost the same thing as Arowanas but bigger. Where would I find a Barramundi... and anyone have a link to a picture of one?

Oscar,
If you find a barramundi for sale in the United States, you should consult with the government, as what you are buying is likely to be illegal. I believe that they are not supposed to be exported from Australia, and we respect other nations' laws with that respect...contact a member of FWS if you see one for sale so we can keep them from being decimated!!!
