I put a whole bunch of fathead minnows in my 150 gallon stock tank housing two Florida gar.

8 remain and the gar won't touch them.

I know there is a term for this.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks

I would leave them in there with my tank with peacock bass and they would leave them alone until they got hungary again.

I read in a book once that a bunch of livebearers were put in a tank of piranha. They put in so many that six survived.

The piranha wouldn't touch them.

But when new livebearers or feeder fish were added, they were gobbled up.

The six just lived in the tank without problems.

I found that wierd.

Tommorrow I am going to add some feeder goldfish.

We will see what happens.

I recently put a sunfish in the tank too.

Sunfish and gars like way different temps it could work but not woth the risks IMHO
also adding more feeders.
pet store feeders are BAD continue feeding only feeders and you will have adult fish so toxic I would not want to hold them with out gloves.
Earthworms, fishing bait any non fatty meat like shrimp, beef heart and such are cheaper and better food.
Also GARS will eat Pellets and sunfish will also you dont even have to feed live at all.
Not getting down on you just a reminder to all i work a 430 tank importer wholesaler and have NEVER SEEN ANY fish who wont eat prepaired food.
