question about heating

Hi

I've just started my first "real" cold water aquarium, it looks great and now I want to start a tropical one as well. I have a tank in my cupboard but i'm not sure if it is suitable. It is made of plastic, this may be a dumb question but is it fine to heat water in a plastic tank?

Yes it is normally fine to heat the water in a plastic tank. I'm hoping its acrylic and not some other sort of plastic though.

Yep, it's acrylic and is quite thick, I just didn't want my pet shop attendants to think I was a complete dumbass by asking them

HI: acrylic is lighter (advantage) than glass but scratches more easily, watch out for sharp gravel and stacking rocks which can fall and scratch the panes.

One last question, what wattage heater would I need for such a small tank? I don't want to pay anymore than I have to

50 watt for 10g, 100 watt for 20g, and so on....
