Hi everyone. I haven't had a freshwater aquarium for several years. I want to start a 29gal planted tank. For lighting I was thinking a single 65W powercompact, a Penguin Biowheel 170 powerfilter, Aquaclear 30 for added flow, WON Pro-Heat IC Heater 75 W, and Seachem Flourite for substrate. Am I missing anything? I was also thinking that a school of tetras would be nice. How many would fit comfortably and safely in a 29? Is there anything else that I should be thinking about?

It sounds like you got everything good :dance

It really depends what kind of tetras you want. They range in size from 1 - 3 inches so if you have any specific one you want I can help you out there.

Just remember to cycle and all that stuff, but im sure you already know about that.

sounds like a nice tank!

you might want to look on ebay or the classifieds here or on other aquatic boards to find great deals on used tanks. Its fairly common to find them for 1/4 of their retail store price, and the same for equipment.

ummmm correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a 75 watt heater not going to be enough for a 29gal? I have a 100 in my 20gal and it just does the job... other than that everything sounds good!

Ya another heater would be good. The 75 probally would be fine but if you get an extra 75 or even a 50 it would be very good (incase 1 breaks down).

I figured that living in a desert, a high watt heater would be a bit overkill. I have to use fans to cool my saltwater aquarium! Guess it couldn't hurt.

As for the tetras, I was thinking eather the neons or rummynose tetras.
