Sure it'll help. But from what I've heard, the best thing about that system is the bubble ladder. You can just hook up a diy bottle to give you a boost.

A little CO2 is better then NO CO2. Keep you water surface movement to a minimum.

You want to minimize exchange with the atmosphere. Air equilibrium will have CO2 somewhere between 1 and 5ppm CO2. You're trying to push it up to 25-30ppm. CO2 is one of the slowest gases to equilibrate between air and water, so you've got a little help from nature, but it's not infinite and will still try to resolve the concentration gradient.

I have experience with it. The bubble ladder is IMHO the best part of the kit. In my tank, I've gotten rid of the fementation canister and hooked up a 2 liter bottle to the ladder. It is neat to watch the bubbles shrink as they go up. One caveat, In my tank the ladder needs regular cleaning (hot water works great) to remove any yeast buildup, ect. After about a week, the buildup gets in the way of the bubbles and they will "clump up" and go up the ladder as much bigger bubbles. I would think putting a bubble counter in-line would greatly reduce the need for cleanings.
