So I've been thinking about getting a new tank for awhile saw one today I think might work. It was a All Glass Geneva Series size 36 corner bow front. Came with a solid stand and a 24" floresant light with the top. It was $399 for the whole setup. So any problems with an odd tank shape like this? (think 1/4 circle 3 sides) Seemed well built and if it's 36 gallons then I should be able to just move my Penguin 170 filter over and hopefully still use my 2 100 watt tronic heaters from my current 29G in the short term anyways. Was looking at it as maybe a way to get more display for the little space I have.
Just wondering if anyone has any opions before I get to set on buying it.

(I was only looking for a new stand for the 29 but I swear they only make them in ugly or flimsy. So started looking at replacing the whole lot.)

Just a thought, you could build your own stand - even if you're not an ameteur carpenter, there are lots of plans online for building your own stand (and some of them are VERY nice looking) and they look pretty do-able to me...
I've seen the corner tanks, they're unusual and interesting. I'm not sure a Penguin 170 will provide enough current/filtration for 36g - but then again, I'm a HUGE fan of over filtering a tank.

I saw a corner tank setup at wallmart yesterday, 299.00. I'm not sure if everything is included. I was thinking that it would make a nice planted tank, with tall plants and rocks higher at the back corner, maybe a cave at the back center and plants on either side. Discus and tetras would be nice in there. But a fish that likes to swim needs a long tank I think. This shape limits the number of laps that a fish that needs length to swim would do. That would be my only problem with the corner tank. But for compactness it would fit nicely in alot of places.

I wouldn't us a corner tank for salt water. For fresh water it would be okay. I think using a peguin 170 would be under filtering a 36. You want to cyle your water a minimum of 8 times and hour. I would go with atleast 2 penguin 170's or one penguin 330. Just my $.02

I liked it more or less for the space it took up vs. how well it would display the fish in a room vs. gallons. If I had it my way I'd buy a 55 -75 and never ungrade again. I just don't have the space. I only have the fish listed in my tag down bottom and they'd be taking up residence in this tank once it was set up fully. I've always had a rule when buying fish, that I'll never get anything that grows over 3-4 inches. I don't have any fish that apear to need the length over space to swim or be healthy. I'd be limited in the future but I'm ok with that. A good metaphor would be that technically I still have the first computer I bought in '97 it's just that all the parts enventually changed. In other words there's nothing like a good upgrade.
Good to know I'll have to upgrade the filter. Figured as much there. Also that I'd like wise have to upgrade the heaters to 2 200w. I was thinking for now of using 3 100w in each corner and seeing how that worked out before the fish went in or untill I could afford the improved equipment.
I will build my own stand if I decide against getting this tank I have a real good idea what I want and a father who has more skill then you can shake a stick at. He may never want to work with my again after the project but... I always say perfection is devine LOL.

Thanks for the impute really gives me something to think about before I get to far ahead of myself.

I could see your fish in a corner tank, yes it would be nice. My computer is a 99 issue, also redone everything lol. I went and did an impulse buy, a black ghost knife fish, when I also had the 3 to 4 inch rule lol. I couldn't resist. So now I'm saving to buy a 4 foot long, just for him. About the stand, well I've seen some iron ones cheap, but the thing is that these iron stands are more for terrarium or palludarium and the weighted tank full of water is another issue. Building one would be a nice option. I will have to buy because I can't build for the life of me. Lucky you.

I'm curious about the three hundred what heaters, why not just go for a good 200 watt? Wouldn't it be enough?

I've read it's good to have a back up heater. That and in the winter my room can get down to 50 at night so far the temp in the tank hasn't gone down below 73 before I added a secound heater it got down to 67. Then again I added two good heaters instead of the one low quality one. Otherwise ya I'd get one 200w and keep the 100w as a safety net.
I'm good at not impulse buying live animals LOL, but when it comes to inanimate objects I'm horrible.
