I got 5 clown loaches on Monday. I got the smallest ones they had, there not even 1 inch long. I have them in my 20 long Q tank. I got 15 gallons of water at the pet store and toped off the tank with my tap water (7.6 ph, 214ppm gh, and 179ppm kh). Monday I’m going to start changing 2 gallons a day for 30 to 45 days so they can slowly adapt to the my water. Then they will be off to my 75 gallon planted tank till they get about 4” long so they will be ok for the 300 gallon tank to live out there lives.

When they went in to 20 gallon they had about 30 snails but I didn’t think the number of living snails would drop so fast. There were a dozen ghost shrimp in the tank but I think there are gone. I have been feeding them frozen green pees and they seem to love them.

What should I be doing differently?
What did I not think about?
What should I have read that was not in my books and I didn’t read on the net?

I don't understand your question. Your doing just fine, better yet great. They eat snails good for them but not for the snails. They will eat all kinds of food. Watch for ich before you put them into your main tank. Is great that you have a 300gallon they will love it in there.

That should be fine to see if there is any ich on them, you could up the temp a little to speed up the life cycle of the ich is there are even any. is that 300 gallon massive?? what else is in there or is going in there?

300 gallon
I don’t know what will be in there by then but right now there are;

Fish
30 Black Widows
20 Bleeding Heart Tetras
20 Serpae Tetras
2-8” Pleco
2-6” Pleco
12 Female Fancy Guppies (just for the free feeder fish)
2 Male Fancy Guppies

There are 4 huge peaces of drift wood. So far the only plants are steam plants and I’m planning on ordering some plants off the net soon. The filter is a 50 gallon “wet sump” and a Magnum 350. It has 3.5 watts per a gallon (AH Supply). I’m adding some ferts but no Co2 at this time.

The magnum 350 pumps 350 gallons an hour I think. The 50 gallon wet pump has 2 over flows on it and has 3 pumps. The overall turn over is about 1,200 gallons an hour.
Black Widows are Tetras. You might know them as Black Skirt Tetras I think.

I don’t want to toss them right into the 300 because there way to tiny and I would never see them. I’m hoping that having them in my 75 gallon with a bunch of tetras will help them not get to aggressive like they can get.

you mean the tetras not being agressive... right?

Whoever told you clown loaches are agressive is wrong.

The Clown Loaches at work are very aggresive. They bullied the dwarf gouramis to death and are now turning their attention to the platties.
I would'nt have put them in the tank but the LFS brought them round without asking and by the time we were out of a meeting they were already making themselves at home.
