Is 8 too much?

I have a 75 gallon tank with two biowheel 330 filters on it and 8 goldfish in it, 5 of which are large. Somebody told me that the tank was overstocked. Actually, they told me the tank was overstocked when I had either 5 or 6 in it. They seem happy and actually were happier when I added the babies. I must say that this person is one of the people who gave me lousy advice in other situations. I also was told that they can live to be 30 and on another occasion 100 years old. I just wanted to check with the experts. Anyone?

Yes I believe it is overstocked.

3-4 fish is more like it for a 75 gallon for goldfish.

I have a 75 gallon and I made a mistake of overstocking it once.

Water quality goes down hill fast.
 
I would say it is overstocked because I have tried to keep one goldfish in a 15 gal and it created too much waste. So the good bacteria could never totally get rid of the ammonia and nitrites.
 
It would have only been 5 but the babies outgrew the other tank. It is times like these that I wish we didn't get rid of our pool. I bet the fish would have loved it. How about life span?
 
Sell them or give them away if you have babies.

That would be the best thing to do.
 
You should be able to sell large goldfish to most LFS's. They always liek to have a few big guys to show off.
