My pictus Is Dead :mad2

Got him a week ago put him in the quarentine tank and hes being doing great.
Last night we got a new plant (realative of the jave fern) and put in. This morning hes gasping and listless to the point where hes rolling on to his back and just lying there. 2 hours later hes dead!

He was perfectly healthy until the new plant. Which leeds me to belive that it was the plant. Is that a safe assumpition. Can plants carry fungus/bacteria/diesese that can kill a fish that quickly. Aprox 15hrs

I doubt its from the plant. What are the Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, pH, and water temp of the tank? Besides the fact, even if it was the plant, the tank you said was a Q tank, nothing else should have been added to it untill you were done Qing the pictus, new fish that your in the process of quarenting can still become diseased or infected because of something else new. However, I haven't heard of plants bringing in any diseases, nor have I ever had a problem with them.

I dont have a full test kit but i got the water tested at the store before i got him. all ok. I tested the nitrites and there fine 0.3 I doubt the water stats are what did it even with a spike the fish should deteriate a day or two. He was happy and healthy up until the plant went in a mere 18 hours ago.

Nitrite of 0.3 is not fine, but is potentially deadly. Nitrite and ammonia should be undetectable in any tank with fish. I think that your tank was not cycled and the metaboltes which your fish produced killed it.

i gotta agree with RTR here, I doubt it was the plant that killed your fish.
