It's been awhile since I was last here.
I have planted 10g tank that has 2 neons, a red tail spiny pleco ( 2 in) and a botia. There was more but I had the orginal tank crack and had to move them into a space 10 that I had.

I'm looking to restock but looking to do something different than amazon tank. Here's my question. are the plants and red tail spiny pleco and botia a problem are will they be ok in there?

I have a 20 amazon and a 55gallon african tank already.

I've read of spiny plecos being very aggresive so I'd see if it looks aggresive to you now. Question is is how many are u thinking in of putting in?

The thing just hides on driftwood all day. course there's not much in there right now so that could be why I'm not seeing it as aggressive.

If I was to do it, in a ten maybe a male and couple females. I came across a post them today and said hmm.

I wouldn't add shellies in with your current inhabitants. Shellies are very territorial and will pick on any fish in the tank with them, especially with bottom dwellers such as a loach or pleco and especially in such a small tank.

PLants may also be a problem as shellies are little bulldozers and love to move around their substrate. They will probably end up uprooting any plants. I did have some JAva ferns attached to rocks in with my L.ocellatus that did alright.

So if you want to do a shell dweller tank i wouldn't add them in with the species you have now. WHen i had my shell dwellerrs i moved one of the females that was getting beaten up by the male into my 15g planted tank(cardinals, rams, BN pleco) and she took over the tank and started picking on and chasing every fish in there. For their size they are very aggresive, not really community tank fish

I have 5 shellies (ocellatus) in a 10 gallon... three (1 male and 2 females) have terretories and the other two are 'wanderers', but are good to help spread aggression so the male doesnt pick on the females. I would definately not put any other fish in a tank with them unless the tank is over 30 gallons. They will eagerly attack my hand if it gets too close to thier shell (luckly their bites dont hurt).

They like very high ph (tang gets up to 9.0), and rocks, shell, and sand are thier preference.

If you were going to get some shellies then i would reccommend you completely re-do the tank. Take out its current inhabitants, all the plants, and just have sand + shells + a couple rocks to break-up terretories. A trio would be best but dithers are usually needed to distract the male.
