Is it wrong to kill the goldfish that my roommate put in my tank to make room for a bigger school of neons or blackskirts?

PS I hate goldfish

There is no hard and fast answer to that. I say its wrong, others might say "who cares" etc. I can't tell you what to do, but if it was me, I'd try and take it to a LFS and see if they wanted it. If its a fancy, it could probably get a good home elsewhere. If that didn't fly, and I really really had do, I'd put the fish down as humanely as possible.

If it wrong to kill your brother, or mother, or father?

definitly try to give it away to an lfs or another friend or relative. killing an animal just b/c you don't want it anymore is repulsive.

Do I believe it is a good idea to euthanize a healthy animal? Not really, but that's me. I would make EVERY effort to find a home for the goldfish somewhere else first... If all options are exhausted, then it's always an option I suppose... It's really your call - I'm in no position to attempt to impose my moral beliefs on others.

Why not find out if there's a school nearby that would like it? Some elementary school teachers keep an aqurium in the classroom to teach children how to care for a pet.
You could put a note up somewhere local that has a bulletin board (we've got them in our local grocery stores, our building's laundry room, the drug store next door...) asking if anyone would like a free fish. You'd be surprised the number of households with tanks, there may be a really nice home out there for this fish if you make a little effort.
I think the only appropriate time to euthanize a fish (or any pet) is if it's very sick or injured and there's no hope of recovery. My philosophy is if you own the animal, it's your responsibility to find it a home if you can't keep it any longer - that's part of pet ownership.

I've decided to not just kill it... but feed it to another fish.. maybe my friends puffers, cause I think it's too big for the Oscar he has

I just rescued a goldfish today from our outdoor bucket pond he was the last of the guys that we bought about a 4 months ago. its literally amazing that hes alive and im going to put him in a tank, he deserves it since hes a survivor... I dont like it when people use other fish as feeders but thats my opinion, maybee you should try harder to get someone turned on to the hobby and offer them the goldfish for free as a gift... Think of them as an oportunity to get someone into the fishkeeping world... PeaCe...
