Stocking questions (1.5g & 10g)

I have a small 1.5g, slightly planted tank (hornwort and some bacopa) with a few snails. I am interested in stocking it with a few ghost shrimp and some white cloud minnows. I was thinking 2 ghost shrimp and 3 minnows. Would this be too much? I was considering putting a crown-tail betta in there but instead would like to put him in a 2.5g tank I'm thinking about buying.

For my 10g, it's medium planted with two hornworts, some brazillian micro sword growing in the front, some cacomba, and what looks like a wisteria. I'm thinking about either platties or neons, with possibly an oto or pleco. How many platties or neons could I reasonably put in there?

thanks in advance.

I can't really comment on the 1.5g - IMHO it's too small to do much with.
The 10g is a different story - lots of possiblities there! Of the fish you mentioned, I'd go with neons (a group of 6-8 would be nice) and two otos. No pleco will stay small enough for a 10g, and platys multiply like Starbucks locations. They also reach ~2", so you could only keep a few.
My suggestion is to get 6 neons, 2 otos, and put your betta in the 10g with them. That would be a gorgeous tank :D

IMO I wouldnt put anything in the 1.5 except snails and a couple shrimp....even with plants it will be VERY hard to keep the water nice and clean.....FWIW

Do ghost shrimp eat algae? I doubt my two miniscule snails (about 1mm each) are a very effective form of algae control.

I like the 10g idea. I'm thinking i'll do the 2 oto, 6 neons, and one crown tail beta (gosh they're purdy) and that will add a lot of nice color/activity on all different levels to it.

Also, any ideas for stocking a 2.5 g heavily planted tank? I'm definitely getting MTS but at least they're all relatively small.

One thing though, will my tank be able to generate enough algae for two otos? I have a few small snails which I imagine are snacking on the algae. If not, should I just add an algae wafer every now and then? Also, will otos eat black beard algae?

Yes you'll need to target feed your otos - they're little algae eating machines, and it's not likely there will be enough algae to feed them.

No, I don't think they're fond of hair/staghorn type algaes, and I think beard algae falls into that catagory (I'm picturing a dark, stringy hairlike algae) - I've seen them go nutso over brown (diatoms) algae, and they'll eat soft green algaes, but for tougher hair-type algae either SAEs or flagfish are usually recommended (and even then, they may only take care of new growth and leave the stuff that's there when you introduce them to the tank!) They're too big for a 10g though, so unless your snails eat it, I think you're going to have to take care of it by hand.
