ok i need a little help figuring this out. right now i have a 55 gal with a 3.5in oscar, 2 JD's 3.5 and 4. im gettign a 125 gal for christmas and plan on trasfering them into it. the problem is that the only place i can fit the 125 in my house is where the 55 is now. so i will need to move the 55 to set up the 125 and let it cycle so how can i move the 55 into another location for the time being without causing major problems. any ideas will be great

duct tape? sorry, that's my solution for everything.

water alone in that tank weighs over 400lbs. you are going to have to take that sucker down to almost empty to even budge it. can you put the 55 gal on the floor in front of the current stand?

You shouldn't need to let it cycle, transfer the substrate and the filter from the 55g to the 120g and you should be good to go straight away.

Put the fish into a large bucket or rubber maid filled with tank or decholrinated water (seeing as they should only be there for a short term it's not ideal but it won't affect them).
Drain the 55g to get the substrate and put the substrate and filter into a tub / bucket with some tank water.
Then move out the 55g, put the 120 straight in, replace the substrate, fill the 120g (make sure you match water temp), add the filter from the 55g, finally add the fish and hey presto you're good to go!!

Just don't let the filter sponges or substrate dry out..

HTH....

Just a quick aside, one of the easiest ways I've found to move substrate is with a brand new "dollar store" dust pan acting as a scoop. But remember you'll have to lift the bucket or dish pan that you are putting the substrate in so don't over fill it. Five gallon buckets from Home Depot are pretty cheap and reuseable for actually holding the substrate as you empty the 55.
Scrub it well (no soap) and rinse it very well with hot hot water and you should be good to go.
