Is it OK to vacuum the gravel in my marine tank. There is a lot of algae growing on it that needs to go.

Yes. If you have a cc or similar substrate, this should be part of regular maintenance. With sand, it's generally not needed, and you can't dig the vaccum in--just wave it over the surface to remove solid debris as needed. For algae growth, you may need to increase the number of sand bed creatures you have--they should keep it turned up enough to prevent algae growths.
I wouldn't vaccum my SW tank cuz it would suck out too many good critters.

Well in all honesty, this tank is at my workplace, and it is absolutley overgrow with algae. Today I vacuumed most of the gravel and scrubbed the algae of the rocks on one half. The other half will probably get done on Sunday.
