I have an Eheim Pro 2227 Wet Dry Filter that has a major leakage problem. I've set it in a bin after the first time it leaked but it seems that once every two or three weeks the last three months it has leaked. Usually at inopportune times and it's usually about 3-5 gallons down in the tank before I get home to find it. I've double checked the hoses, no blockage. I'm using Eheim Media. The clips seem to be tight enough. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can check?

If it was me, I would take the time to tear it down and inspect it, and think about getting a back up pump. You'll need one eventually!

Good Luck!

First, be certain that you did not overfill the baskets. Better to have 1/4" less than 1/32' too much.

Then, switch to silicone lubricant instead of vaseline. I don't know if the eheim vaseline is bad for the seals, but when I used "Vaseline" it ruined my seals, made them hard. Using silicone lubricant helped them recover.

I have replaced a few seals between the baskets as well as the main head gasket. Eheim told me that without lubrication it could fail in 18 months.
