I just noticed my angel attacking something in the tank, and when I looked closely, I saw he was tearing away at the bottom leaves of some Ambulia! He went back several times, ripping away, but I couldn't see if he was actually eating the bits he tore off since he was between me and the plant.
There aren't any fry or snails in the tank ATM, and there were no other fish around him, so I don't think he was hunting anything hiding in the plants. I know cichlids sometimes like to rearrange plants/decor, but I've never seen an angel take a dislike to a plant before! Anyone else ever seen an angel eat or destroy plants?

I've seen an angel nibble at BBA before.

My angel used to eat my plants too.She was picking at them so much that it was causing noticable damage. I thought she might be lacking vegetable matter in her diet so i started feeding her a veggie flake a couple times a week and her plant eating stopped.

Maybe your angel needs more veggies

I do feed veggie flakes three times a week for the livebearers, but I'll up it - I've always thought of the angel as a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but I guess he's craving salad! :D
Thanks for the replies guys.

well if he knows you are watching him and you feed him after he does that they are smart enough to make the conection... I have one that would pretend to eat plants in his efforts to show me how 'hungry' he was.

my angel just loves the algae wafers, the kind you usually think of feeding ottos.
