Right now I use Kent Marine Super Buffer. I have a 30 gallon tank and it tells me to put 1 teaspoon in. Even putting 1/4 of a teaspoon in will make my whole tank foggy for days. I'm not adding it directly to the tank either...I'm following the directions and adding it to freshwater I make to compensate for evaporation.

When I make my freshwater I mix water and my declorinator in a bucket before adding it to the tank, and when my ph is low I add my buffer. The water in the bucket becomes solid white within a few minutes and never clears up no matter how much I mix it. Adding the bucket water to the tank just makes the whole tank foggy.

Certainly there is a better way, or better buffer formula. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I use Kent Pro Buffer, and the water doesn't get cloudy at all. I was going to switch to Super Buffer when I ran out of the pro, but maybe I won't.

Also I enjoy reading your posts to find out what your tank is doing as it is almost exactly the same as mine. I even think they were started around the same time.

Thanks, maybe I will try the pro buffer. even the slightest bit of the super buffer clouds the water so bad I can't see any of my fish or even the back of the tank.

I noticed we have similar tanks...mines doin pretty good. I want to start another one soon so I can get some different kind of fish that wouldn't be good in the tank I currently have (like a flame angel or something).

The Pro is a liquid, and on a 29g you only use about 10ml, the water does get a cloud about the size of your fist when you first pour it in, but it only lasts for a few seconds.

Before you add the buffer, you should probably check the calcium and alkalinity. It sounds like you are precipitating calcium when you add the buffer, which may mean that your alkalinity is already too high.
