Sounds weird but I was just reading a post about chemicals used in the same room as the fish. I know the smell of the tree overwelms me at 1st. Maybe a dumb question but it just popped into my mind for some reason. Maybe a response to the fish dream thread.

Unless you're actually putting the tree in the tank, there's no problem. Yes, there will be a very (really, very very) small amount dissolved in the water, but not enough for your fish to notice. If you were painting the room, sure, then there may be enough solvent in the air to affect them, but not a little turpentine.
