I have just put an arrowhead crab into my 55 gal. tank. Currently only have 4 fish some Scarlet Crabs, Hermits and a Peppermint Shrimp. The Arrowhead was about the size of a half dollar when I bought him/her a month ago. It now has a leg span of about 7"! It took one of the large pinchers off of my Peppermint Shrimp for a snack. The Peppermint has now regenerated that but I'm getting concerned about it's compatibility in the tank. They can grow (as I've caught a few in the Gulf of Mexico) to over 2' across. It's great fun to watch and eerie as it looks like an underwater spider!

Suggestions or comments on compatibility?

Best Regards,

Dave

I had one in my 29 reef tank for a few months, it didn't hurt anything, it just ate flakes and sat under my toadstool leather.

Years ago I had a arrowhead crab that started out small as well. I need to scan some of my old photos. He was HUGE! I ended up giving him away at the same time I had to give away my Panther Grouper to a guy with a 300 gal Fish only tank :(

I actually found my arrow crab with a hermit crab on its head. I hate hermit crabs.

I don't hate my hermit crab but he still has to go. I caught him red handed killing 1 of my astreas yesterday. This thing is huge and I already wanted him gone because he is such a bulldozer. He doesn't care what coral is in is way. He just knocks them over to get where he wants to go.
How do I get him out without being pinched? TIA

they're hard to catch with a net, but thats what i would do.
