I put some Malasian driftwood in my tank the other day at it looks absolutely killer. Unfortunately it almost became a killer. There are a few large natural holes in it which dont pose a problem, but there are a few smaller holes in it as well. I came home today to find a serpae jammed up in one of them. Obviously he thought he could swim through it but he was wrong. I was able to help him through after 5 minutes but he has a few abrasions, none of which look life threatning.

Anyone have any crafty ideas on how to prevent this again? I don't want the repair to be visible. I need to do something because I doubt the serpae will remember not to do that again, nevermind the other fish who could be possibly get stuck.

Well, we're not exactly talking "smart" animals here ;). I'm sure in the wild they encounter that problem, though, so I guess I'm a little surprised too.

could ya just make the holes bigger? instead of closing them up?

what about stuffing the holes with peat, and planting something like moss in them?

I'd suggest either drilling/cutting the holes out larger, or planting an anubias or java fern in them. Another option would be to silicone the holes, fill them up and they are plugged.
