anyone kept PERMIT in their tank?

I live in coastal SC and caught in my bait net some of what I am positive (based on physical descriptions from several field guides) are baby permit--- a big, pompano/jack like fish.

I only have one, but he's a hungry little bugger, about the size of a nickel. Silver front half of body, blackish charcoal latter half, red dorsal and anal fins, red eye. Very hyper and quite a personality. Unfortunately, permit grow to 50lbs plus, so he'll eventually find another home. Anyone ever seen or kept these before?

yesiree they do. It's a shame there's not much of a fishery for them here in SC. You only hear of one getting caught every now and then, and it's not necessarily a real big one. Lots of their smaller cousin, the florida pompano, though. Good eating!
