For the most part, convicts don't really care who their partners are, as long as you have one male and one female. Mine started to breed for me at about 1.5 inches. However I hear that if they start too young, their growth is stunted. I think this is true as their babies are catching up to them in size already, and you can still tell they're babies.
and if you cant find one of the opposite sex, just stick your hand in the tank . They will gladly mate with it..
