View Full Version : Oscar eating spiders??
,ok first off I have an oscar that just ate a spider that some how made its way to the tank my oscar is in, well I saw him scouring the top as he does when there is food, checking something out well by the time I walked over to the tank I had just enough time to see a little spider walkin across the water before my boy attacked and there was no more spider, is this gonna harm him in any way or is this ok, I couldn't see what kind of spider it was, but it was like yellow. On a second note lol I saw the funniest thing ever, straight out of discovery channel, I put my jack dempsey that is about an inch and a half into my 29 gallon community just to cure my curiosity as to what would happen, well I have a opaline gourami, a female sword ( only one left out of a trio) 2 small common plecos, 2 julli cory's 3 bronze and 1 albino aeneus cory's, well the opaline gourami kicked my jack dempseys' *** that little gourami started off by changing to a dark dark navy blue, and flaring its fins and smacking the j.d, well then they jaw locked and did a few circles and the gourami had its feelers going nutts like it was tryin some kind of fishy kung fu, and it snapped at the j.d like 3 times and the j.d fled the scene:eek: so after curing my curiosity I replaced the j.d back into its original home just figured I'd share that lol

I dont think you have much too worry about. In the wild, im sure oscars eat worser things than a spider.
As for your jack dempsey, I guess it was the new environment your JD was introduced to that made him flee..If you would have left it in there for a while, im sure it would have held his own :D

mine loves the bugs I gather in the summer time. Highlights include moths, crickets and spiders. Spiders are year round in this house.

Ditto. I usually pull of the moths wings first though, that powdery stuff gets all over. Also grasshoppers, flys, and earthworms (I know, not a bug, but then neither is a spider.)
I've been waiting to try one of the wolf spiders we have around here, they are about 4" across, but I think it will be a bit messy.
lols, some gouramis can hold their hold, such as the blue & yellow 3 spots & paradise fish.
Paradise are my favourite fish, but I've only owned one, I just loved him the most ever. He grew to about 5" in a 20g tank and then died of shock from the winter and blackouts kicking in at the same time. Colder temperature in general, plus no electricity for the heater. Now, condisdering the bigger the better in my books, I go for the Oscars. Including the fact that they're fun to watch. But that's not going to stop me from making a whole tank dedicated to Paradise Fish in memory of Eden [my ex-paradise fish, RIP]...
