I'm posting this for my girlfriends, friend. I have not seen the fish or the tank and I don't know any water parameters.

She was over at her friends tonight and they noticed that one of the fish, which she said is a texas cichlid has some white bumps on it's back. My girlfriend knows what ich looks like and she said it's not ich.

Her description was "it looks like white pimples on the back of fish". The best description I can come up with is: it looks like white pimples on the back of the fish on the fish scales just below the dorsal fin.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be??

Would you be able to post a picture of the fish?
if it's with other fish, I would consider separating it in a hospital tank, just to be sure it doesn't infect the others.

Hard to tell without knowing whats in the tank, if anything is new, what the water parameters are and how long it's been there.

If it looks like pimples...sometimes parasites will embed themselves - but I wouldn't treat based on the tiny bit that I know.

Best advice in the mean time: Do a good sized water change and quaratine him if you've got an adequate spare tank.

I've seen that before, twice actually, once on a blue texas cichlid and then on my H.pearsi (hmm both herichthys) i never found out what it was but the texas did evenually die

I,think it's caused by feeding too much high protein foods(to herbivores) and or water quality but i could be wayyy off.

good luck.

Yeah, I don't know either, I haven't seen the fish or the tank it's in.

I was asked if I knew what it could be and I had no idea so I asked on here. My guess is that the water quality isn't the best. I have a feeling the people with the tank don't do as many water changes as they should.

Thanks for you help and sorry I couldn't provide more info. One of these days pretty soon I might go over and look at it and see if I can get a better idea of what is going on with the tank and the fish.
