Fin rot / red eye problem

Hello

I recently bought a sick angelfish from a local (evil) pet shop with fin rot, which I noticed after a day and removed.

Sadly two of the other angelfish have got sick, the guy at the pet store gave me Jungle Gold care (since they had nothing else in stock) which has nitrofurazone, furazolidone, sodium chloride and potassium dichromate.

So I put the suggested amount (15g) for goldfish in and also put some Methylene Blue as backup and raised the temperature to 30C.

What should I do now should I add more of the gold care after 3 days or try another medication made for tropical fish? also should i still put the ultraviolet light on?

The angelfish is eating normally but is swimming slightly slanted and has a red ring around half its eye.

My tank has been cycled and the other fish include 3 polka dot loaches and a sucker fish as well as this I have a 700l power filter, ultraviolet light, aeration thingy and 2 live plants. The tank is 60 liters PH , amonia etc are normal.

First, remove the plants. The sodium chloride (basically table salt) is bad news for most plants. You can store them in a separate container at room temp for a while, especially near a good light. Wash them well before and after storage and store in new, NOT tank water, or they will reinfest your tank.

The Jungle Gold may work. Personally I'm partial to MelaFix. This stuff really works good, it just smells like eucalyptus (your family may think you're doing drugs or something lol).

I dunno if elevated temps will help here with bacteria--- I'd bring them back to normal parameters since water at 30C has less oxygen capacity than, say, 23C-35C. Parasites are another story, since high temps speed the life cycle, but I think it may be hurting your angels and keeping them weak (lower O2).

Ultraviolet light? In the form of a canister-type sterilizer, or just a UV bulb over your tank? The sterilizer type is fine so long as it's not nuking your biofilter bacteria. The kind that goes over your tank is a waste, and likely harmful. It causes cancer in humans, so it seems logical to think it is bad to fish. I'd get rid of an over-the tank UV light (aka black light) ASAP.

Your loaches may not like the treatment, they tend to be sensitive. Consider removing them and quarantine for a month AFTER successful treatment. Oh, and BE SURE to call the LFS and tell them nicely that you are NEVER coming back and tell them, nicely, why. A good LFS never intentionally sells a sick fish and is never so pathetic as to only carry one kind of bacterial medicine, but that's just my opinion! :rant:

Found a shop that does sell melafix - so should i stop this treatment and change ?? amount of water to use the melafix?

When you say quarantine the loaches all i have is a very small container - can they handle living in their for a while?

Oh and the pet shop is evil- I live in the UAE (Dubai) these guys just seem to want to sell you anything to make a buck! But I finally found a good pet shop – though it is miles away.
