I bought some cooked frozen shrimp a while back and have been chopping up a bit of it for a treat for my fish. Does anyone know if the cooked shrimp (or fish, for that matter) is ok for my fish, rather than the uncooked? Not that any of them died-just don't want them keeling over in a week or a month!
I've never seen my fish go so crazy for something! My trigger tries to eat the biggest piece he can find, then spits it out 3-4 times before he can finally get it to go down-the pig!

Raw will be better, more nutritious and closer to what they'll eat in the wild. I feed raw shell on shrimp to several fish.

ditto, Orion. I was actually on a local radio station the other day, the question was "How do you pamper your pet?" so I called them and told them about how I make special trips to the coast (30 mins from home) to castnet shrimp and squid, dig clams and worms, and pick Ulva algae. Everyone who knew me knew exactly who was on the radio, lol.

Cooked shrimp is perfectly safe, but as Oriongirl noted, not quite as nutritious. Be sure not to use "fresh" , ie, never frozen, shrimp, as they *just might* introduce a pathogen. Shrimp that has been hard frozen is a fantastic food.

One neat trick is to buy the fresh, unfrozen shrimp, peel them all, pack into a big ball, and freeze as a big hunk. When you need some, use a cheese grater to grind off slivers of shrimp, and put the hunk back in the freeze.

Fresh shrimp is full of phosphate, as is ANY fish food, so feed sparingly. Don't use the "oh they'll eventually find it and eat it" method.....

Hey, thanks, Orion & Mako! I appreciate the help! Guess I can go pick up a bottle of cocktail sauce to finish off these leftovers :)

The raw shrimp is much easier to eat as its softer and less chewy. Theres likely less preservatives in the raw too.
