AquaC Remora fizzing

You may have a leaky intake tube. I had this problem on an Aquaclear 300 a few years back. I could have taken it back to the lfs, but I just located the leak and siliconed it (5 years later it works fine!). If the intake has the slightest hole in it (most likely at a seam in the plastic from when they made it) will suuuurrrpp some tiny air bubbles into it, creating a terrible headache (I am much like your wife, I HATE filter noise).

If it doesn't clear up in a day or two, take the thing back to the lfs (keep your media if you're cycling the tank if they will let you). They should take it back. I've never used a Remora before, so I cannot comment on reliability.

It took mine about month to become very quiet and not make microbubbles. I run mine with the cup all the way down. If you do the same thing, make sure the O ring is adjusted down to the body of the skimmer, this will cut down a lot of noise. I also put some neoprene foam between the top of the tank and the lip no the skimmer and under the adjustment screws. That cut down some of the buzzing as well.
