Hi there!

Im thinking of setting up a 10 gallon tank with

2 cory catfish and
6 neon tetras.

Would this amount of fish be ok once the tank is set up and everything is stable?

Thanks

d

Sure, I don't think that the load would be too heavy for the 10G. What sort of Cory's were you thinking of?

BTW, don't forget to cycle your tank before adding fish.

You must pay attention to what you read here. it's the 1st time I've seen someone who wasn't asking to put 1,000,000 fish in a small tank. You deffinatly left some room to expand. no need to do so right now ya know, but after a few months, you might see a lemon skirt or a gobi that you like and youll actually have the room for it.

wow thanks!

I was thinking maybe albino corys... are they any more difficult to look after than regular corys? (maybe different heat needs? I've researched with the neons and the corys and they like roughly the same temps...)

I've done a bit of research on these boards lol! Looked at everything everone said and thought about it hard before even starting to think about what fish I'd like! I've never had a tropical tank before and I'm really looking forward to it! :D

Plus I know that you guys will always help me with any problems I have!

I'm thinking fishless cycling for a good few weeks with some plants in there.
Are there any plants that you would recommend?

Thanks ever so much for your input, it's really appreciated.

Good job, nice to see someone actually planning their new tank instead of doing it on a whim :)

Tetras and cories are nice together. I'd go with small cories like panda cories, that way you can easily add at least 3 since they like to be in groups. I'd probably stick with the 6 neon tetras and then you'll have room to add a nice solitary fish later that you like.

It would be GREAT! You'll LOVE the corys! Albinos and or bronze would be fun. My bronze is the most active although the albinos are active too. Fun fish!

Go for it!

Just remember to change the water on a regular bases ... that many fish in a 10 gl tank will need to be cleaned weekly .... and regular water changes too ...25% to 50% of the water in the tank ....

I do a 25% water change/Vac every week. Also at the moment I do weekly water tests as well.
