I have a 20 gallon tank, thats 30'" by 12" by 12". right now all I have is two pink kissing gouramis, a silver dollar, and a blue lobster. I really want to get angelfish, but i dont know if i have the right set up, can someone help me?
Also, i was at the pet store today and i saw a blue ram cichlid, and it said that it was peaceful, it was really attractive, and i really wanted a pair of them, would blue ram cichlids be okay in my tank? THANks

Plus, angels need more heigth than that - they can be 6 to 8" tall from fin tip to fin tip. A 29 or 20 tall would work better.

If i get rid of the gouramis, would it be ok to get angels, or is my tank just not the right size?

Personally, I think your tank isn't tall enough. 20 longs are great tanks for most cichlids...but just not angels. If you can scrape up the cash for a 29 (about $35 dollars at PetSmart) or find a used one, they have the same footprint plus 8 more inches of height which is ideal for angels. I did the same thing myself - had a 20 long for tanganyikans, and then bought a 29 for the height so I could get angels when I changed the tank from tang to SA.

JMO, I would never put 4 angels in a 20 gallon....the aggression factor would be astronomical once the fish matured. I might keep one in there but that would be it.... But, like stated above, I don't believe a 20 gallon long is fit for Angels... could it be one, sure I guess but the maintenance would need to be high and the fish wouldn't gow to it's optimum.... Their fins are just too tall and to limit that would limit the fish...

this goes without the other fish listed in the tank.... with the other fish, I aggree with Haggisman, I believe your tank is at the max level for fish.... if not over....

Personally, I never have had a 20 long or will. But a pair of angels in a 20 tall works. I have many pairs over the years (iboth in a community tank and not), all have bred (some sucessful, some not). the problem is that angels are hard to sex when they are small, so you buy 4 that you like ( german blue, black veils whatever), they pair off and you trade sell the other 2. the whole point of getting 4 was to get the pair. I agree to that 4 full grown angels might cause problems ( esp if they are all male or 3 out of the four are male).

you're right freeless, a pair would do well if they were in a 20 gallon "tall" , I do agree to that.... but I still stand by that a 20 gallon long tank is unfit for angels.

I didn't think I disagreed with a 20 long was unfit. but it read thats I am, I'll say it now for angels yes for 20 tall and no for 20 long.
