air bubbles

I have a new 10 gallon aquarium with a six inch air stone, and I have been noticing alot of bubbles at the surface, especially when the lid is closed. my roommate has a 10 gallon tank with a 10 inch air stone and his tank does'nt have this problem. Is this something to worry about? does it have something to do with the tank cycle? I would appreciate any insight into this matter.

Bubbles? Like a foam? If so, you may be overfeeding or overloading the tank. The foam is an organic mess that sticks to the surface of the air bubbles. Go to a pet shop that has a big saltwater selection and ask to see their protien skimmer. It's a big tube that is filled with bubbles that produces the same foam you see on your tank. All it does is remove the foam (and organic goop along with it) from the water-- saltwater foams a lot more than fresh.

I don't think the size of the airstone is an issue. A 6 inch stone is plenty for any air pump you'd use on a 10 gallon.
