I was just wondering, after opening a container of fish food, how long should you keep/use it until it goes bad and should be thrown away?

I don't usually keep food past six months. As I understand it, the vitamin content decreases over time and food lacking in vitamins can cause the fish to develop illnesses. I figure it's worth the $5 for a new container of food to keep my critters healthy. 
Wow, good question. I never thought of it. I go thru so much food, a $20 can lasts little over a month. Although I can't confirm the info blinky posted, it sounds like good advice. Does the package have an exp. date?
