My new Opalines just shredded my betta

Heartbroken.
He was my buddy. I just can't believe it.
I started to take him out of the tank thinking he was dead, but then girlfriend gasped and noticed he was still breathing. I did my best, set up the best intensive care unit I could, but he didn't make it. What a crappy way to start the new year.
 
Sorry for your loss. fish are cheap but love has no value.
 
Thanks guys. At least I gave him a better life than Walmart could have.
The oddest part is my girlfriend's betta (at her house, in her tank) died that night too for no reason.
 
my wife's Pearl did the same thing to a betta, we were both so sad...

but then the Pearl died and we were sad, but we happily got a new betta.
