ok so while i'm away from college my dad takes care of my fish, and he forgot to feed them snails and now the teeth are way over grown, and it's having a bit of trouble eating.

any experiences with this? and how i could possibly fix it?
i know i can take the fish out and file it down, but i'd rather not do that...

Use nail clippers. There is a way to sedate them first with clove oil. If Pufferpunk or cwdawson don't show, I'd go to thepufferforum, they have instructions there.

In high does clove oil of course kills the puffer. Goto your lfs and get pond snails, ramshorn are a less breeding second choice. And pop in some slightly crushed malayian snail. Not good as food as shell is too strong but as its an emergency.-to avoid the other extreme.

Once your puffer's teeth are overgrown, no amount of food will help. You must trim them then.

Except there not too over grown yet. Stated in the first post was he is having trouble not can't eat at all. I only point this out as the other option is difficult. Great article on trimming though. Either way if you have a puffer you need the snails.

avoid the malaysian snails at all costs, even if they're "slightly crushed". Extreme is a good word if your desperate enough to use these snails.
