So after putting in my new 36 corner I decided to check and see if the 10 gallon that got me started would fit next to it. IT DOES! :dance So I'm thinking of doing a lightly planted betta tank with it. I wish I could find the picture of a tank I"ve seen here where the owner built a retaining wall to do a teired effect with moon sand. Anyways I plan on doing something like that but using some gravel I have left over from my old tank in the retaining walls for plants and some of my left over moon sand for the rest over the tank. I need to know first of all if the penguin miny I have would toss the betta around to much and if a Tronic 100w heater can be used (it's a left over from my old 29). I love bettas but know I can't have one in my main tank as it stands now. Otherwise I'm thinking of doing a small Neon tank with it but I'd really like to get anouther betta now that I can have a tank soley for one. Any idea what I can expect with the available equipment? Or what I can keep?

The heater should be fine, as long as it fits--some 100W heaters are too tall to fit comfortably in a 10. The mini will be great--I've had bettas in with much, much larger filters and they may take a week or two to get used to the water current, but every betta I've had always really liked swimming straight into the current, then would go flop on a powerhead or plant to rest, the back into the current.

What lighting will the tank have?

I have a really cheap hood so I'll have compact florecents in there. I'm going to see if I can find a glass top so I can use a 12" ish hood light I have laying arround.
