I have heard that there are several soft corals of the Dendronephthya genus that can live in a tank with standard flourescent lighting? Is this true and if so, does anyone know which ones they may be?

Good news/bad news.
The good news is that they don't need light. The bad news is that their feeding needs are poorly understood, and most die within six months. It will save heartache in the long run to upgrade your lighting and try some of the hardier soft corals.
