I got a used acrylic tank over the weekend that needs a good cleaning. I was wondering if oxyclean is OK to use on acrylic? What strength should I use it? If I use it as a paste would it be too strong? I was going to do an initial cleaning to see if I need to do any scratch remover after, since the tank looks like it has hard water deposits (kinda milky, with a few scratches.

I prefer to dissolve the oxyclean--about 1 tblspn per 2 gallons of hot water. Let it soak, rinse well. The haze may actually be etching, if the tank had really hard water in it, that can't be removed but isn't visible when wet.

The tank is on the patio now

Could I just fill the tank with water and add the right amount of oxyclean directly to the tank and let it soak?

I would try it on a small back or side section of the tank before I try the entire tank. By all means use it as a liquid. It has always removed the hardwater stains for me but do be very careful if the tank isn't glass. I do use it twice as strong as Orion Girl but that is just me.
