My Dempseys are so mean , no not really . They will eat out of my hand . When feeding them pellets they come to the top of the water and stick there head out with mouth open , for me to drop the pellet in . Or I hold the pellet on the water and they take it from my finger . They appear to me to get upset if I just drop the food in the tank . With shrimp pellets they will swim into my hand (when i have it towards the bottom of the tank )and eat them .
Who ever said these where mean fish ?
These are 3 female about 3-4 years old , had a male but the tired him out .

They can be quite mean, but with yours their hunger is greater than their temper. Mine eats out of my hand also (with my Blackbelt) but hides most of the time. Still, he can have quite the temper with my Blackbelt! I'm just about to post another thread in general freshwater with a good example for you. Think I'll call it "Caviar Anyone?"--- check it out.

my dempsey had a temper, and that lead him to loosing all of his tail and having gaping bloody wounds on both sides of his body. He was too slow for my salvinis:(
