my aquarium has been set-up for maybe 36 hrs and the water is still very cloudy, i think i mixed the salt in the correct proportions, how long does it usually take for the tank to setttle, this is what i think i did wrong, i added the water first, (with no salt), and then i added the filtration system, and then i put in the live rock, and then i added the salt, it was hard for me to mix the salt with out disturbing the rock, but i did thee best i could, and i let the power head mix some of it, however the water is still cloudy, should i let the water sit or what, i still have plenty of salt left, so i could always re do it.

Did you put in a substrate? Most often, initial cloudiness in new setup is the result of pouring water into sand, or from crushed coral, and will settle out in a week or so, less with lots of water movement.

For water changes, you will want to mix the salt in another container rather than putting FW and undissolved salt straight into the tank. It's fine for the first fill, though. :)

i have no substrate now, just a few peices of a live rock, but after reading some post, i realize i have done some things wrong, i am going to take out my undergravel filter, and run a whisper and a powerhead, i want to put a base of sand and a few peices of live rock, does that sound good? and just run no under gravel filter? so mix the water and the salt in a different container and then pour it in the aquarium. I think i am going to start all over, lol

i just got a whisper filter and its actually clearing it up pretty good, so this is what i plan to do, take out the live rock, take out the undergravel filter, add sand, and a different powerhead, and then put the live rock back in, will this be ok, and then i will moniter the S.G. and try to adjust to what it needs to be. is this a good plan, or do you think i should just start completely over, i would hate to waste the salt that is already in it.

actually the whisper filter worked wonders, it is clear now, but it is still not crystal clear, so what do i need to do to make it crystal clear
