help me out guys, i was thinking of putting some sort of plant that would be kind of like grass. i wanted it to cover the bottom and have short blades, hope this makes sense. i just wanted to know if its possible and if it would be bad for my fish or not since i got panda corys in my tank

TIA

hairgrass or dwarf hairgrass have a very grassy look and are supposed to be a little easier than microsword.

E. Tenellus makes a nice grassy look and is relatively easy to cultivate. I just pulled a bunch and took it to the LFS as it can get very invasive if not managed.
As stated above, Glosso makes a nice carpet, but not 'grassy'. Grows lower than tenellus.
What you should get depends on how high you want the 'carpet' to get, how tall the tank is, and how much light you can supply. Most ground-cover type plants require a bit more light than other, higher growing plants to maintain.

wow, thanks for the suggestion guys, i like the micro sword look, and also the hairgrass, but i dont know about this because of the extra clean up and i dont know if my panda corys would like it. if anyone had any experiences with corydoras and a grass like plant, i would really like to hear about it

again, TIA

Glosso does make a nice carpet, provided you supply enough light, otherwise it grows up off the bottom higher than tenellus. (Sorry Len, it almost feels criminal to point this out and "correct" you... :( )

Hairgrass is pliable enough that the cories should have no problem getting into it if they want. This is an educated guess since I've never had the two together.

I have no experience with any of the above mentioned plants except the micro-sword. My original plugs that I bought were close to 5", but I was told that it almost never grows that tall, and that the ones I bought came from an exceptional hobbyists tank. 6 months later, I have it growing well in two different tanks, the higher light tank (10g 30watts normal flo. 24 hours per day light) it is growing close to 4" high and spreading like wildfire,
The lower light tank (15g, 30 watts normal Flo. 12 hours per day light) it is spreading well and looks good, but is only about 1.5 inches high. in both cases, the full potential is probably not yet seen, as I have just recently corrected some nutrient defeciency issues and have seen a drastic increase in growth over the last 5 weeks. Even in the low light tank, it has always grown and reproduced, but is very slow with limited light. in all cases it has provided a great grassy ppearance and is filling in the substrate very nicely. I personally would reccomend it from my experience but have nothing to compare it to either.
