floating on top of the water, i had a internal whisper filter in there, and i took it out like two hours ago, and the stuff has been slowly dissappearing

Its probably where you have put your hands in, i found when i put my hands in my tank, even though they are clean i get this stuff at the top...

just out of ceriosity how long has ur tank been set up? is it cycling?

my tank has been setup for about 4 or 5 days now, and it is still cycling, but i have a bigger problem now, now there is just a film type thing accross the top of the water, and i try to stir it up, but nothin happens. is there a type of chemical i can add to get rid of this.

how much water flow do you have, I find that when I have that stuff appearing it is a flow problem usually I just clean my power heads real good and it goes away, what are you cycling with?

i've had the same problem, i just figured it was apart of the cycling process...

when you ask what am i cycling with, do you mean what is in the water, or what device am i using to cycle the water. well i will just mention both.

water, and instant ocean salt, salinity is unknown at this point, i havent had a chance to pick up a hydrometer.

i am using a undergavel filter with the power head attached to it at the bottom, (there is a tube that the water flows up, and it flows out about three inches from the top) but yesterday i just took out a internal whisper filter. it takes up too much room in the tank, should i still run a external one? the current power head turns over 106 gallons per hour, but my buddy is picking me up one that turns of 120, i will have that one on monday. oh yeah, it is an 11 gallon tank

well cycling does tend to be a smelly ichy process, and you will get a film but flow will get rid of it
