mixing substrate?

i was just wondering if it was a good or bad idea to mix crushed coral and sand...
do any of you guys do that?
is it a bad idea?
what would be the pro's and cons of doing it?

the crushed coral would quickly become the top of the substraight and the sand would sink to the bottom... pros??? good question, cons ~ the crushed coral would act as a nitrate sink boosting those nitrates in your aquarium...

how would u lower the nitrates?
and what is the best substrate for a saltwater thank...

To lower nitrates you have to do small,consistent water changes. 10% every other day or so.
I used Southdown playsand.
