I'm curious, how difficult is it (or is it possible) to replace the bottom pane of glass on an aquarium?
(See this thread)
DaisyGirl has been told it's pretty much impossible, but I thought I remembered others here talking about doing it.

I forget the thread Blinky, but I answered in the post that a bottom plate with a crack could probably be repaired. 1st, get a new plate of glass cut to just fit the bottom of the tank, then silicone it in, especially at the sides.

I would say you could do it. Just get a piece cut (tempered) to fit the bottom. Just to be safe I would take the whole tank apart and start from there. If you just tried to silicone the bottom in you might not get enough on the edges.

IMHO this would only be justified in an extra large custom tank.

Tanks under 55g are <50$ anyway, so getting the glass cut and going through the hassle just wouldn't be worth it.
For tanks 55-180 your dealing with soooo much water that you have to weigh the pros/cons. Personally, spending 150$ and getting a non-cracked tank sounds like a better alternative to spending 75$ to fix the broken one...

Surely this would be easy, keep the piece in the bottom, if its not to badly damaged, then get another piece of glass to put inside on top of the broken piece then silicone it down, this surely would be stronger than normal aslwell.

And i dont mean put a pice just on the crack, i mean the whole bottom, so then it would be like twice as thick.
