Gourami Compatibility

I currently have the following in my 29G (3ft):

1 Moonlight Gourami
1 3 Spot Gourami
5 Neon Tetra
2 Black Phantom Tetra
1 Bandit Cory
1 Otto

I was wondering if going forward my 2 gourami will be ok in this tank, the 3 spot will sometimes chase the moonlight but I have not seen any evidence of nipped fins, etc.

Sorry to pester with this thread, but what are people's thoughts on this, am I asking for trouble with 2 gourami in a smallish tank? I got the fish on advice from LFS; I now don't think I should have got 2 gourami having read how territorial these fish can be.

I would double your neon tetra school to make 10.

I would get a few more phantom tetra's.

Get some more cories.

And maybe 1 or 2 more oto's.

Three Spot Gourami's are semi-aggressive, so in theory it may not be good with the other fish in your tank, but maybe he's working out in your tank fine with the others.

I have heard that Moonlight's are more docile, but apprently get aggressive as they age?

I would remove one gourami, and take it back to the store or something

It's hard to day. I had 3 blue spots in a 40 for about 3 year with no problems. But, had a blue spot in a 55 that was absolutely awful, chasing all other fish in the system, no matter who. Ended up moving him into a 20 of his very own. If you are seeing some aggression now, with fairly young fish, it will likely get worse, not better. Sorry.

I think you are right, I will keep an eye on the three spot as he/she is the one who is occasionally showing aggression. Will start stealing myself to remove my favourite fish......or maybe I could convince my girlfriend there is room for another tank....
