I've been away from home for some time on business and am still a couple of weeks from going home. I was home a week ago and was able too quickly give a large water change and cleaning before I was off again.
I have soft green algae growing on my fake plants and driftwood. When I get home I'm looking at adding about 5 otos to help out. The algae isn't bad and actually it looks pretty natural but I've been wanting to get some otos and I'm glad to have a food source for them.
Yesterday though, my wife informed me that I now have an orangy-brown growth in my gravel against the glass about a half an inch from the top of the gravel down. This doesn't sound good I'm thinking. The fish are fine, water is fine and the sitters are only feeding a small amount of food every 2 days.
There really isn't much I can do right now until I get home but does this sound like it's going to be bad? Am I in for ripping things apart or is it a simple cleaning job? Then of course the question is what is it and why is the cause of it?
