I know Skimmers are good...do i need one for a 46 or should i just do frequent water changes?...
Also thanks for the advice from my algea problem post :bowing:

Assuming you are not using a mud filteration system then i would recomend a skimmer. I am not very well versed with the different varieties for a tank of this size but im sure someone here can direct you properly. They will do a great job of stopping nutrients before they even enter the nitrogen cycle.. a very good bit of equipment and worth every bit of cash you spend on it.

Not sure what mud filtration is...haha....umm..just have a empty over the tank canister and a powerhead....but i would like to have something take particles out

Mud filtratin is usually setup in a sump and feeds macro algaes which in turn absorb nutrients in the form of nitrates and phosphates from the water.

Do you plan on upgrading you may want to go with a large skimmer if not go with a cpr back pack II(or I)($130) aqua c remora($170) (online pricing)
if so a berlin turbo(190) or turbo hang(210) or a turbofloator multi(?) these are all hang ons but if you have a sump just get a sump version or if you want a very large or hight stocked tank later you could look into down draft
their is also lot of other good and not as good skimmers on the market

Bak Pak skimmer? Good? Bad?

Ideas..if not going with the Aquac Remora

I have a remora on a 55 and I have been very happy. Cost more then the CPR but I realy like the Aqua C spray injection method of micro bubble creation. The couple of things I do not like is there is an area inside the skimmer body that is hard to clean and if you want it to skim the surface you need to spend more money to get the box that goes inside the tank which in turn takes up more room. As far as performance it works great.
