so it is my second day with the 3 Tiger Barbs I recently Bought, they seem to be darting back and forth towards the back of the tank, hiding under the rocks and cliff systems and beating thier fins and breathing extremely fast while staying in one place.

did a test and here is what it reads:

Nitrate - 20 PPM
Nitrite - 0
GH - 150 ppm
KH - 300 ppm
PH - around 8

One more thing, the water returning from the filter is creating really fine bubbles that are rising to the surface but are kinda clumping together taking awhile to pop..

just wanting to make sure everything is cool , thanks for the help :)

I would get your ammonia checked as soon as you can.

Just make sure your tank matches the species requirements, if not fix it. If so then put some more barbs in there because there a schooling fish and like to have at least 6 of there own kind.

His tank has not cycled yet, so it would be a bad idea to put any more fish in there at this time. What concerns me is how come your nitrates are at 20 ppm after just a day or two? You shouldn't be showing any. Pretty much at this stage you should only be showing ammonia, which by the way you did not provide a reading for.

Sorry, just tested the Ammonia and it is reading between .25 and .5
I was considering a water change but the guy at the LFS said to just leave it alone to let the cycle take place... Also I found out what they are doing is called Shimming , now could the stress be from transporting them from the store?

The stress is from ammonia toxicity...disregard the lfs employee's advice and do a 50% water change as soon as possible. Monitor ammonia levels daily and do water changes accordingly. Nitrite spikes are soon to follow in the next couple of weeks. Patience.

The nitrate is probbably from the LFS water in the bag, usually absurdly high...or possibly allready in the tap, although still high for straight out of the tap. ;)

and yes I completely agree with slappy, disregard most if not all of what you hear from LFS employe's and do 50% daily changes, otherwise you will lose or seriously hurt the fish...amonia is very toxic.

The nitrates could be entirely from the tap. The easiest way to sort that out would be to test the tap.

Ditto on ignoring the guy at the fishstore. Water changes save fish and won't slow the cycle at all. Not even a little bit.
