I have a toadstool coming tonight, and was wondering, is acclimating them the same as fish? I was going to do the drip method, which I usually use, for a few hours. How will this work? Or is there another way?

I got my Toadstool last friday, and used the drip method for about 1 1/2 hours. It was doing great until yesterday... I added 15lbs of cured LR to finish my tank off, and moved the TS up a little higher to get better light. Its now semi-closed, and all the polyps are retracted. Hopefully its just re-adjusting, but we'll see....<crossing fingers> I really need to learn that important rule of reef-keeping.... called patience!!!!

My toadstool goes into a funk whenever it gets moved, poked or conditions change. It pouts for a few days, then gradually re-extends its polyps. As long as there's enough light, toadstools are very adaptable, so find it a spot that works and let it be.

By the way, the drip method works fine for acclimation.

Yea along with the toadstool I also received 5 Astrea's, 5 Nassarius, 4 Certith's, and 4 Bumble Bee. I put them in a seperate container and dripped for 4 hours. Every hour I removed about half the water. They went in the tank about midnight last night.

This morning everything seems good the toadstool looks like it's stretching, the polyps come out a bit for a while then go back in. How long do the poylps extend? the toadstool is about 4 inches across, and about 3 high.

The tank is finally coming togther now. Next project is to get rid of the paper "ocean" looking background.

The polyps extend as long as the lights are on. They will retract if anyone walks on the coral, though.

Actually I was interested in how long (in inches) the polyps extend?

I'd say about 1/2". The tentacles at the tips seem to extend the most when the light is lower.

you definatly need to check your perameters and do water changes..
if you added 15 pounds of live rock and your corals are pouting and looking bad you could have created an amonia spike with the additional liveorck
I don't care full cured.. un cured... live dead doesn't matter I have always seen some kind of change with the addition of rocks.. perhaps it was just enough to cuase your coral to pout... hopefully it hasn't started a bigger cycle and is killing your stuff.... the stress of moving the coral ontop of possibly worse water conditions are alot in a small amount of time...

The water is all fine, just did a my weekly change yesterday morning and tested before the change.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
DKh (meg/L) 4.5
PH 8.2
Temp 77
Salinity 1.025

I think Duck's post was for me, but either way, the LR I added didn't cause a spike, I kept a close eye on it. My readings are good, only a little nitrates, like 10ppm. I think i just stressed it too much by moving it. My capnella(check other thread) came back to full health during all this, so its not the water quality... ANyway, crossing my fingers....

Coincidence that I just added 15lbs about 4 days ago. The Toadstool has been in for 3 days now. Every day it comes out a little more, Yesterday I re-adjusted a powerhead to get a little more flow past it, and it seemed to like it. They move quite a bit, just slow enough that you can't see it move, bt everytime you walk past it's in a different pose.

Also will hermits harm the toadstool? I have one blue legged that has taken a liking to it and likes to climb up on it. I usually knock it off if I see the crab go near it.

Hermits crawling on the toadstool will make it close up, but won't hurt it.
