besides my high nitrate levels my puffer has some type of white film over
both of his eye's. He had this once before on one of his eyes and it went away. Could it be a result of stress due to the high nitrate levels? He still eats fine.

I was reading a comment from Fenner a few days ago about blindness in Lionfish due to diets heavy in freeze dried krill; "food" for thought.
You should rotate with other meaty foods if you intend on keeping this big guy, although at 10 inches he would be happier elswhere..

Could need higher temp. and more acidic water, they like that....also could just be ,.sore eyes..according to my desease chart, due to injury or handling..or breeder fighting.

Huh??? High nitrates/heavy feeders indicate more acidic water is not needed in this marine set up. I think a slow climb to higher PH/better water quality is in order.

high nitrate levels

I completely agree with my puffer being happy elswhere. thats why I am In the process of putting together 180gal. setup. Thats going to take a little time however, and until I do, I would really like to keep him if I could. I just want whats best for the fish however. I really do care. For instance there is a fish store around here that is not taking care of their fish. I can't stand that sort of thing. Every time I go in there, the water is all cloudy. You can't even hardly see the fish. There's no protein skimmer on any of the saltwater tanks. Which I know you can make it with out one. But if you seen what their water looked like it would make you sick. I can't stand to go in there anymore. I'v tried several times to contact their main office and complain. They always say thanks for letting them know on this matter, and they will get to the bottom of it. They never do! What can I do? This place doesn't deserve to keep fish if they can't take care of them any better than that. Is there some place or person I can contact, and notify of this problem.
